Most of us have had the experience of hearing a song that brings on an emotion or a past memory, even a smell can do that. This is a great example of NLP.
I specifically like using what we call in NLP as “anchoring”. I use this technique in most of my Hypnotherapy sessions. Anchoring refers to the process of associating and internal response to some external or internal trigger. We create an anchor to access quickly a positive emotional response. This can be done by using a visual cue, a word or touch. Repetition of an anchor can be used to strengthen and reinforce the anchor.
For example If we set an anchor specifically for a calm and relaxed state, using the cue (maybe by touching a place on your wrist) that state can be accessed at any time and in a way others will not even notice. This is a wonderfully helpful tool with many applications.
